Body Detox
In 1888 the Berlin physician Ludwig Brieger defined the word “toxin” as a poison that is created within the body, because various poisons appear in our cells no matter how pure of a life we are living. The daily oxygen we are taking in, the pure water we are drinking and even the organic produce we are consuming, still lead to an inevitable presence of toxins in our system. So when it comes to preventive medicine, many are rather focused on results instead of addressing their causes. A better approach to preventive wellness, especially if you are in a relatively good health already and want to stay that way, includes keeping your body free of the number-one cause of disease: toxins.
On a daily basis your body produces a vast amount of garbage (toxic waste) during normal functions such as digestion or cellular respiration. This toxic waste consists of damaging chemicals and other pollutants and needs to be continually cleansed out of your system. If it is not, the toxins are accumulated in your tissues and organs and in turn can have harmful effects on the overall state of your health and well-being. More and more studies have shown that this toxic accumulation is the root cause to all diseases.
In addition to coping with internal toxins produced by natural body processes, your body has also to deal with a constant attack of external toxins: harmful pesticides, automobile exhausts and other environmental toxins in the air you breathe and the water or food you drink and eat. As these toxins accumulate in your cells and organs, the body is left being even more vulnerable to sickness.
Of course, your body is not completely defenseless and has already a natural mechanism for toxin cleansing in place. Organs such as the lungs, kidneys, bladder, small and large intestines, colon, liver and gall bladder—all of these organs work together to eliminate toxins in your body. However, sometimes there is just too much buildup that these organs just cannot handle by themselves. Therefore, it is highly recommended to assist your body with the cleansing procedure. If you don’t know exactly how to do it on your own, you could visit a European Spa. Many health and wellness spas throughout Europe offer special treatments that include herbal tea rituals, cleansing meal days, special detox body wraps and massages, as well as detoxifying cuisine, broths and juices. As a preventive measure, the recommended length for a detox break is 7 to 10 days and should be done at least twice a year.
